According to Emerging Contaminants, an academic journal focused on the field of emerging contaminants, Emerging Contaminants is dedicated to disseminating and sharing the latest research on environmental pollution problems and their potential solutions worldwide. The journal focuses not only on traditional pollutants, such as heavy metals and pesticides, but also on those that have recently been identified or are of increasing concern, such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), persistent organic pollutants (POPs), disinfection byproducts (DBPs), mercury and its compounds.

The journal's coverage is extensive, covering the characteristics, presence, environmental behavior, bioaccumulation and toxic effects of these pollutants. By publishing high-quality peer-reviewed research articles, journals provide scientists, policymakers, and the public with a window into the impact of emerging pollutants, while also providing a scientific basis for developing effective environmental management and control strategies. Special emphasis is also placed on interdisciplinary research methods, encouraging collaboration between chemists, biologists, environmental scientists, public health experts and engineers. This interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the environmental risks of emerging pollutants and to the development of innovative monitoring, treatment and control technologies.
