The African Journal of Health Professions Education (AJHPE) is an online, quarterly, peer-reviewed journal that primarily covers matters related to health professional education. The magazine launched a new submission and tracking system by the South African Medical Association on September 15, 2022. The purpose of its publication is to provide a platform for health education professionals to exchange research results, short scientific reports, letters, editorials, educational practices, personal opinions, etc. In addition, the magazine also features African education related news, obituaries, and general communications.

In terms of the review process, AJHPE follows a double-blind review process, where the identities of reviewers and authors are kept confidential throughout the entire review process. Most manuscripts will be assigned to one or two reviewers for review under designated editorial management. As experts in the field, reviewers provide comments on the importance, originality, and scientific value of the manuscript, and suggest improvements to enhance its quality and effectiveness. The review process takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks to complete, but the specific time may vary depending on the quality of the manuscript, the reviewer's response, and the author's submission of the revised manuscript.
